In order to develop an understanding of the spectrum of positions found in the Sunni Islamic legal tradition when it came to what constituted blasphemy, what punishments were to be given to those who carried it out, whether it was a pardonable offense and whether anyone was excluded or exempted from such legal sanctions, it became important to go over and study the authoritative Fiqh texts and rulings on blasphemy from the four major Sunni schools of Islamic jurisprudence i.e. the Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools.
Relevant chapters and sections from the various texts were then compiled and translated into both English as well as Urdu. The untranslated and translated compilations are all viewable online. Additionally, interactive timelines have also been generated using these compilations and will be available online soon.
